Unisource Collector's Poster

In fall 2011, Genesys Creative set out to design a poster to celebrate the holidays season.

Genesys partnered and collaborated with a great creative team including their own design team plus a talented illustrator Ben Weeks, Unisource Canada and printing expert Somerset Graphics.

The creative process:

Genesys designers researched and brainstormed on winter holiday traditions, stories and symbols related to our rich multifaceted culture and traditions in Canada. They created concepts of various icons that remind us of our experience in the holiday season. Remember fireplace channel, inflatable Santa, funny and not so funny gifts? Oh perhaps some awkwardness in giving or receiving certain gifts. We tweaked some icons to inject some humour in this poster so it's fun to read. The intention is to portray love and warmth.

Genesys then worked with illustrator Ben Weeks to create 165 icons in his unique style. The "Holiday Essentials" calligraphy design is based on a original font "Home Run Script-roman".

Production process:

The design team worked with Unisource to select the best matching paper and packaging for the poster. Printing expert Somerset Graphics advised designers on the effects of production.

Specifications for Production

Paper stock:

Mohawk Loop Antique Vellum Black for its beautiful texture with a touch of vintage feel. Mohawk Loop Black helps reflect the gold to enhance a glittering feel.

Litho printing:

The poster is printed with an opaque metallic gold with three hits on a large format UV press plus two hits with opaque metallic silver to ensure the solid metallic effect on the icons. In the same time, the mouse type credit line is printed with silver only once to ensure perfect registration.

Clear foil process:

Instead of an embossed image which is a common approach, the centre calligraphy title is debossed with a clear foil, with the size and position that would give non-disruptive effects in relation to the icons.

This timeless celebration poster can be viewed multiple times in a common place – people will get the general message and can always come back for more to discover.
